Back to the Dark Ages is a combination web blog and radio show where I talk about traditional crafts (mostly textile arts but also others) from a prepper (or survivalist) perspective.
I try to give out information not only on what many of these crafts are, and resources for learning them; but why they were important in a preindustrial society. I try to give them context in how they affected and were practiced in people's daily lives, how you can have fun with them today and what to concentrate on in terms of a possible post-industrial future.
It is hoped that we will only really need to go "back to the dark ages" for fun and historical interest, but no matter what happens having these skills can be useful and gives us a perspective on how people lived before the modern era.
I draw on my knowledge both from research and practice as a hobbiest, history major and re-enactor.
Show times are variable at the moment as I am a guest on the Preparing for the Future show, usually on Monday evenings. I will post show updates when I will be guesting and presenting the Back to the Dark Ages Hour. So check the website both for resources links and show times (show is 3 to 4pm EST and I'm usually on the second hour). |
